For a coffee lover like me, coffee is not just a drink; it’s a relaxing experience. When the first sip of coffee touches the mouth, it brings instant energy and refreshes your mood.
Grabbing coffee will also be an excuse to meet your friends. The experience will be wholesome if you get to choose among the best ones.
As someone who loves coffee, I often check out new spots for fresh brews. From my own experience, these are the best coffee shops in Kathmandu worth checking out.
7 Best Coffee in Kathmandu
1. Karma Coffee (Kar.ma Coffee)
Karma Coffee is one of my favourite coffee places in Kathmandu. They offer a variety of coffees sourced from different parts of Nepal, including Ilam, Nuwakot, Kaski, Sindhupalchowk, and Kavre.
The place is located at two locations: Boudha and Lalitpur. The interior blends rustic and modern touches. The ambiance is cozy and calm, making it a perfect place to relax or to do some office work. They also have a balcony setting, which offers an amazing view.
And the coffee here is to die for. It tastes even better when combined with cookies or buckwheat brownies.
There is also a tiny shop where you can buy Nepali handcrafted items.

My Recommendation: Iced Latte, Cookies, Buckwheat Brownie, and Kiwi Lemonade
Location: Boudha and Lalitpur
2. Yala Cafe & Coffee Shop
Located in Thamel, Yala Cafe & Coffee Shop has the best cappuccino I’ve tried so far. Hazelnut cappuccino is absolutely delicious. When you combine it with apple pie or juicy carrot cake, it tastes like heaven.
The place is peaceful and spacious with a lovely garden. The staff are friendly and attentive. Apart from delicious coffee, they offer a variety of fresh and flavorful meals made with local ingredients.

My Recommendation: Hazelnut Cappuccino, Apple Pie, Carrot Cake, Buff C Momo.
Location: Thamel
3. Ananda Tree House Cafe
Ananda Tree House Cafe is a cafe run by Taiwanese. It is located in Boudha. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. The interior is gorgeous, blending both traditional and modern styles with indoor plants all around.
They serve organic coffee and food. They offer local, western, and Tibetan dishes. You will also find the best vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. My personal favourite is their sesame noodles and matcha drinks.
They also sell organic products, including soaps, toothbrushes, postcards, ceramics, honey, pashmina, and many more.

My Recommendation: Buckwheat Pancake, Iced Latte, Dolpo herbal tea, Sesame Noodles, and Matcha Latte.
Location: Boudha
4. Himalayan Java Coffee
Nepal does not have Starbucks, but it does have Himalayan Java Coffee, which has been serving high-quality coffee for over two decades. If you are a coffee lover, you have definitely tried their coffee. This Nepali coffee brand grows its beans in the hills of Fikkal, a region known for its rich soil and perfect climate for coffee farming.
They are located in multiple places inside and outside Kathmandu Valley. The ambiance is amazing, and the coffee is top-notch. I am in love with their blended mocha. They also have various food options.
Himalayan Java is the go-to spot for enjoying coffee alone or with friends, working on office tasks, or holding a formal meeting.

My Recommendation: Spaghetti Meatballs, Sandwiches, Blended Mocha, Blueberry Cheesecake, Matcha Drinks
Location: Babarmahal, Baluwatar, Baneshwor, Basantapur, Thamel, Putalisadak, Lazimpat, Maharajgunj, and many more

5. Bodhi Bistro
I love coffee and books. For people like me who want to enjoy reading books while sipping coffee, Bodhi Bistro is an excellent choice. It is located in Tangal. The atmosphere is calm, and you will find a shelf full of books that make it a great place to read.
Apart from their coffee, their food is also yummy. I enjoyed their gochujang fried rice and loaded nachos. They have a wide variety of tea and great options for dessert too.

My Recommendation: Iced Latte, Chicken Lasagna, Burrito Bowl, Gochujang Fried Rice, and Loaded Nachos.
Location: Tangal
6. Himalayan Java Express
There is no doubt that Himalayan Java is one of the best coffee shops in Kathmandu. But due to its premium price, not everybody can afford it on a regular basis. It has now introduced an affordable franchise, Himalayan Java Express (formerly known as Mokka Cafe by Himalaya).
Himalayan Java Express has been providing the same quality of coffee as Himalayan Java at a reasonable price. It’s becoming one of the fastest-growing franchises with many outlets in Kathmandu.
Their beautiful ambiance, rich coffee, and mouth-watering chocolate truffle cake keep me coming back.

My Recommendation: Honey Latte, Chocolate Truffle Cake, Chocolate Muffins
Location: Bouddha, Baluwatar, Pepsicola, Mahalaxmithan, Dhumbarahi, Pulchowk, Dovan, Nakkhipot, and many more.
7. Coffee Beans Cafe
Whenever I am in Boudha and craving a nice coffee, Coffee Beans Cafe is one of the places I visit. Their coffee is just superb, and there are also some books to read and games to play.
They also offer Barista classes in case you want to learn coffee making in a friendly environment.

My Recommendation: Iced Latte, Blended Mocha, Nachos, and Brownie
Location: Boudha
