Manjushree Park History
Manjushree Park was named after Manjushree, a holy saint from China. It is said that long ago, Kathmandu Valley was a vast lake, surrounded by hills. Manjushree visited the lake and saw a glowing lotus. He wanted to reach and worship the lotus, so he cut open a gorge at Chobhar to drain the water out of the lake. The lake drained, and the Kathmandu Valley we know today was formed.
The gorge created by Manjushree is now known as Chobhar Gorge, and the nearby cave was named Manjushree Cave in his honor.
